Job Description
Part-Time Household Assistant -
Home & Paperwork Organization Location:
Livingston, NJ Pay:
$28-$35 per hour, depending on experienceSchedule:
Approximately 15 hours per week, 3-5 weekdaysJob Type:
Part-time, long-term We are a family in Livingston looking for an exceptionally organized, reliable, and proactive Household Assistant to help us create and maintain systems that keep our home organized and running smoothly. Our highest-priority need is managing the large amount of paper and other material that comes into a busy household. We need someone who can help us develop sensible, sustainable systems for sorting, filing, storing, digitizing when appropriate, and ultimately disposing of paperwork—including mail, household documents, children's schoolwork and artwork—and then take responsibility for keeping those systems working over time. We are not looking for someone who simply puts piles of paper into neater piles. We want someone who enjoys creating order: determining what needs action, what should be filed, what should be preserved, what can be discarded, and where everything should live so that we can actually find it again. We already employ a housekeeper who handles regular cleaning four days per week. This is not a housecleaning position, and there is no childcare involved.Primary Responsibility:
Paperwork & Household Organization A major part of the position will be helping us create, implement, and maintain organizational systems , particularly for: Incoming mail and correspondence Bills, statements, receipts, warranties, and other household paperwork Documents requiring action or follow-up Children's school papers, projects, and records Children's artwork and keepsakes Important documents that need permanent filing Materials that should be scanned or otherwise stored digitally Paperwork that can appropriately be discarded or shredded Creating logical filing, labeling, storage, and retrieval systems Regularly processing incoming material so that paperwork does not accumulate We want these systems to be practical and sustainable rather than elaborate . The goal is not simply to make things look organized; it is to create routines that work for our family and prevent clutter from rebuilding. Additional Household Responsibilities The position may also include: Straightening and tidying bedrooms, common areas, counters, and other household spaces Folding and putting away laundry Opening packages and breaking down boxes for recycling Keeping closets, drawers, cabinets, and storage areas orderly Helping maintain organization in our pantries and kitchen areas Putting away groceries and household purchases Keeping track of household supplies and noting items that need replenishment Working collaboratively with our professional organizer and maintaining systems that we establish together Handling miscellaneous small household and organizational projects as they arise Initiative & Judgment We are looking for someone who can eventually work with considerable independence . Once you become familiar with our household, we don't want to have to create a detailed task list every day. We value someone who notices that mail needs processing, paperwork is accumulating, laundry needs folding, packages need breaking down, or an area is becoming disorganized—and takes the initiative to address it. At the same time, we value good judgment about when to ask. We would rather have someone set an uncertain document aside for us than make an irreversible decision about something that may be important. Hygiene & Household Standards We place a high priority on maintaining a very clean and hygienic home and have established household practices designed to avoid bringing outdoor dirt and contaminants into our living spaces. We do not expect applicants to know our particular routines in advance—we will explain them. However, an appreciation for careful hygiene and a willingness to consistently follow our household practices is an important requirement of the position. For example, we use separate indoor footwear and are careful about how items that have been outdoors are brought into and handled within the home. More generally, we expect our Household Assistant to be thoughtful about cross-contamination and to understand that an item's cleanliness affects where and how it should be handled or stored. The ideal candidate will find these practices sensible and easy to incorporate into their routine. Someone who tends to view distinctions between indoor and outdoor cleanliness as unnecessary or overly particular is unlikely to be a good fit. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is: Exceptionally organized and naturally inclined to create systems Experienced or particularly skilled at organizing paperwork, files, records, and household information Able to distinguish between simply making something tidy and creating a system that will keep it organized Reliable, punctual, and consistent Proactive and comfortable working independently Detail-oriented and conscientious Careful and conscientious about hygiene and avoiding cross-contamination Comfortable handling confidential personal and household documents with complete discretion Sensible about what can be discarded and what requires the family's review Interested in a stable, long-term position Previous experience as a household assistant, personal assistant, professional organizer, household manager, executive assistant, administrative assistant, or in a similar organizational role is preferred. Exceptional organizational ability, judgment, reliability, and initiative are more important to us than a particular job title or employment background. Schedule We anticipate 15 hours per week over 4-5 weekdays and can offer a regular schedule with at least 15 guaranteed hours per week . We have some flexibility regarding the specific daytime hours and would like to establish a schedule that works well for both parties. Compensation $28-$35 per hour, depending on experience. We are willing to pay at the upper end of the range for someone with excellent private-household experience, strong references, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. To Apply Please tell us:

We hope to find someone who will stay with us long-term and become a trusted part of the small team that helps keep our household organized and running smoothly.Pay:
