General Summary:
The Clerical specialist/point of care technician assist with the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other hospital departments, and visitors. They perform general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the department. When functioning as a POCT, will assist in patient care throughout department, transporting patients safely via wheelchair or stretcher, bathing, obtaining vital signs, and performing other duties as assigned.
Education, Licensure, Registration and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred Basic computer knowledge is preferred BLS certification required
Essential Functions:
Customer Service:
a. Greets customers courteously b. Identifies self and area and uses professional telephone etiquette c. Relays messages timely and accurately d. Acts as resource person to staff and support services e. Uses electronic medical record, notifying nursing staff of STAT orders, notifying ancillary department of orders as necessary, documents within forms and scans as appropriate Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide patient care under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
Transfers and discharge patient:
a. Prints the chart and obtains needed copies of documents b. Organizes discharge paperwork c. Assist with making follow up appointments with physician d. Transport patient safely Attends all required safety/emergency/infection control training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Standards of Employment:
Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance. Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment. Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management. Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications. Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards. Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
