Description:
This is a Full Time (8-hours per day) Counseling Secretary position at Joseph Lane Middle School starting August 3, 2026. The work calendar for this position is 10.5 months (215 days) in a full academic year. All out-of-district candidates selected for employment (regular or temporary), including former employees selected for rehire, must satisfactorily complete screening tests for federally illegal drug use (including but not limited to marijuana) prior to the district presenting a final offer of employment. The position also requires a non-refundable fingerprinting fee of $87.50.EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent.QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Previous experience with student information systems. Business English, spelling, punctuation and math. Current office methods, practices and procedures, communications and equipment. Office machines and equipment. Computer-based word processing program, spreadsheets, desktop publishing and databases. First aid (counseling office positions).Ability to:
Perform clerical work with speed and accuracy. Computer keyboarding with speed and accuracy. Make arithmetical calculations. Spell correctly and use good English. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Maintain effective relationships with school staff, students and the general public. Use a computer as a tool.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Initiates and answers telephone calls.- Makes appointments.
- Interviews callers, furnishing desired information or referring callers to proper authority.
- Writes letters and memoranda from rough draft, notes or oral instructions. Composes correspondence independently on routine matters.
- Types reports, memoranda and other materials from straight copy or rough draft.
- Establishes and maintains files.
- Compiles information for and prepares reports. Operates office machines.
- Serves as information liaison between the supervisor, other administrators, teachers, district office personnel, and the general public.
- Fulfills other related duties as assumed or assigned.
