The Gift Shop Coordinator oversees the daily operations of a small retail shop within Dunwoody Village, a premier continuing care retirement community located in Newtown Square, PA. This role focuses on providing a welcoming shopping experience for residents, staff, and visitors while managing inventory, sales, and merchandising. The coordinator ensures the shop meets the needs and preferences of an older adult population and contributes positively to the community atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day gift shop operations, including opening/closing procedures
Provide friendly, patient, and attentive customer service to residents and visitors
Select, order, and maintain inventory tailored to resident interests (e.g., snacks, personal items, gifts, seasonal products)
Monitor stock levels and manage vendor relationships and purchasing
Handle sales transactions, cash register operations, and basic bookkeeping
Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing displays
Recruit and train volunteers or part-time staff (if applicable)
Plan seasonal promotions and special events to engage residents
Ensure compliance with community policies and safety standards
Qualifications:
Previous retail or customer service experience
Strong interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to the needs of older adults
Basic math and cash-handling skills
Ability to manage inventory and maintain organized records
Dependable, patient, and service-oriented attitude
Ability to stand for periods and perform light lifting
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with seniors or in a healthcare/community setting
Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems

Work Environment:
