Job Description

The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is seeking an individual to work in public service as a Secretary in the Office of General Counsel. This position is an opportunity to build a lifelong career doing work that truly matters - helping to protect consumers and maintain public confidence in Michigan's insurance and financial services industries. As a Secretary 9, you will be responsible for providing advanced level administrative/secretarial support to the FIU supervisor and staff within the Office of General Counsel as assigned. Other duties may include opening and closing files, tracking deadlines and maintaining databases. This job also includes preparing, receiving and transmitting correspondence, preparing reports and documents related to investigations. Additional duties include scheduling meetings and assisting in creating and revising forms, processes, procedures, and correspondence. This position may require the use of job-specific computer software to include Accurint and LEIN. This position provides competitive pay, retirement, health, vision, and dental benefits. In-state (including overnight) travel is periodically required, as well as some out-of-state travel for training.

The "Salary" listed above is a range, and the final salary is determined by the selected candidate's education and experience.
Work Location:
This is an in-person position based in Lansing, Michigan , with the possibility for a hybrid work schedule where you would work from home up to three days per week, following a training period if approved. Work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. Attachment Requirements Please submit a cover letter, resume, copy of official college transcripts, and a business writing sample for example a formal letter to a client confirming receipt of documents and outlining next steps (not to exceed one page). An "official college transcript" must contain the college/university name and address, the degree conferred and date granted, coursework completed, and the Registrar's signature and/or seal. A scanned or electronic copy is acceptable, if it contains the elements listed above. The college/university does not have to send the transcripts directly to DIFS. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) software of any kind is prohibited in all areas of the selection process, including, but not limited to, responses to application questions, and responses to interview questions or exercises. Any applicant that is suspected of using AI software for any portion of the selection process may be screened out. Education Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school. Experience Four years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including one year equivalent to advanced 8-level administrative support work, or equivalent to a Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8. OR Four years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including two years equivalent to experienced E7-level administrative support work, or equivalent to a Secretary 7, or Legal Secretary 7. Certain positions may require a criminal history background check.
