The City of Clinton is seeking a dependable and motivated Administrative Assistant to the Clerk of Court to support the daily operations of Clinton Municipal Court. This position is ideal for someone who can manage multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate records, protect confidential information, and communicate professionally with people from a variety of backgrounds. The successful candidate will assist with court proceedings, case and records management, docket preparation, payment processing, public inquiries, and coordination with law enforcement officers, attorneys, defendants, witnesses, and other court participants. Key Responsibilities Assist with the daily administrative and operational functions of Municipal Court. Prepare and organize files, notices, forms, correspondence, and other materials for court proceedings. Enter and maintain case information, court dates, dispositions, continuances, payments, warrants, and other case activity. Create, organize, scan, index, archive, and retrieve electronic and physical court records. Assist with preliminary hearings, trials, jury proceedings, bond hearings, pretrial hearings, and other scheduled court matters. Respond professionally to telephone, email, written, and in-person inquiries. Explain established court procedures and administrative requirements without providing legal advice. Receive and process fines, fees, restitution, bonds, and other authorized court payments. Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive and non-public information. Work professionally with judges, attorneys, law enforcement officers, defendants, witnesses, victims, City employees, and members of the public. Perform other related duties necessary to support the efficient operation of Municipal Court. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Ability to maintain confidentiality, accuracy, professionalism, and impartiality. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet court-related deadlines. Ability to learn and effectively use specialized court-management and governmental systems. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Preferred Qualifications Two years of progressively responsible administrative, clerical, legal, governmental, court, or customer-service experience. Associate degree or other post-secondary education in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, legal studies, court administration, or a related field. Experience in a municipal or magistrate court, government agency, law enforcement agency, legal office, or similar environment. Experience handling confidential or sensitive records. Experience processing or reconciling financial transactions. Experience using court-management, case-management, records-management, or electronic filing systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable computer applications. Knowledge of South Carolina court procedures and terminology.
