Job Description

Performs various tax assessments and adjustments, cash receipting and accounting-related tasks while answering telephone and providing information to taxpayers and other individuals, including all Division of Motor Vehicle transactions. Answers telephone, providing information and answering questions regarding paid and unpaid taxes. Handles incoming mail, receipting in and distributing to others as necessary, and manages returned mail. Processes State income tax and estimated tax payments; maintains accurate and current records. Register vehicles coming into the City and adjust vehicles moving out of the City. Assists in preparing the personal property book. Acts as a back-up cashier as needed for City taxes and DMV Select. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or
G.E.D. 1-2
years experience in a bookkeeping or accounting-related environment Licenses and/or
Certifications:
None Knowledge :
Good working knowledge of computers and automated cash receipting methods and procedures. General knowledge of accounting terminology, methods and procedures, preferably in a government setting.
Skills:
Basic math and analytical skills with good attention to detail. Good computer skills, with preferred experience in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word) and EGTS cash receipting software. Excellent customer service skills.
Abilities:
Ability to perform detailed work with numerical data and make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately. Ability to enter and compute data with speed and accuracy. Ability to handle difficult situations effectively and tactfully. Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in an indoor, climate-controlled, pleasant environment, but is exposed to temperature changes (warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.), extreme noise and/or irate customers.
Essential Physical Activities:
Crouching, stooping, walking, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, kneeling, reaching, talking, standing, finger movement.

up to 25 lbs.
