Job Description

Utility Clerk/Administrative Assistant The Town of Sheboygan is accepting applications for a full-time Utility Clerk/Administrative Assistant. This position will report to the Town Clerk/Treasurer and be the backup for reception.

Thursday Time:
7:00 am-4:00 pm/7:00 am -5:00 pm on Tuesday A Utility Clerk/Administrative Assistant provides clerical and administrative support, handling utility billing and customer service tasks. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and computer skills, as well as the ability to handle cash transactions and maintain records.
Essential Functions:
  • Collect and process payment from customers over the counter, through the mail, and from other collection sites.
  • Make courtesy phone calls to customers for abnormal meter readings.
  • Establish new customer accounts.
  • Prepare work orders for service connections, disconnects, and meter problems
  • Communicate with citizens and other City employees the necessary information regarding service, complaints, and other concerns.
  • Perform a variety of clerical duties.
  • Communicate closely with other Town Departments and the Public.
  • Perform data input on cycle billing, meter changes, and files maintenance.
  • Post readings into the computer and make changes as are necessary to correct accounts.
  • Website maintenance
  • Prepare Sanitary Districts Agendas and take minutes.
  • Provides back-up support to the Town of Sheboygan office, Sanitary Commissioners, Chair and Supervisors.
  • Assists in election preparations, tax collection, accounts payable, and payroll.
Qualifications/Experience:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
  • 2+ years bookkeeping, accounting, or other financial-based clerical duties preferably in a municipal government setting. Caselle Software knowledge and Beacon Meter Reading Software.
  • Knowledge of employment labor law, governmental compliance, federal/state programs and requirements preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and have a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, with a strong focus on MS Word and Excel
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude
  • Ability to be flexible and manage several tasks at the same time to meet deadlines Starting wage will be dependent on experience.
