PURPOSE SUMMARY.

Collect tax payments in the form of cash, check or credit card; calculate and enter payment information into a computer-based accounting system; balance cash drawer, research and reconcile any discrepancies; answer tax and payment questions; and provide excellent customer service to the public and other employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES. 1.

Perform front counter cashier functions for the Treasurer's Office.

  • Verify and receive beginning cash for a front-counter cash drawer; keep till and receipted payments secure at all times.
  • Receipt cash, check and credit card payments; make changes as required.
  • Research tax information from a computerized database.
  • Balance cash drawer by reconciling total receipts and cash against reports.
  • May be required to make the daily office run to a local bank and post office. 2. Provide daily front counter assistance to the public.
  • Answer questions and provide assistance related to property and personal tax documents.
  • Calculate current and delinquent taxes; miscellaneous fees; and taxes paid in advance for mobile homes and parcels.
  • Assist taxpayers with tax delinquency questions and explain governing directives, processes, timeframes and methods. 3. Answer departmental phones.
  • Answer inquiries and provide information or assistance to callers. Direct caller to the applicable employee or departmental office.
  • Take messages if necessary and route messages and/or information to the appropriate personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS. A.

Education. High school diploma or equivalent. B. Experience. Two years of full-time responsible and advanced administrative or responsible customer service and cash handling work experience depending on functional area of assignment. One year of specialized experience or training in high-volume cash receipting, balancing and reconciliation is required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. C. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy. D. Licenses/Certifications. Valid driver's license. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with County policy. E. Other. (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Must pass a background, driving record and credit check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Must have knowledge of: General office practices and procedures and use of office equipment; proper methods to maintain accurate records; proper cash handling and balancing procedures; proficient in 10-key calculator and general computer skills; and standardized word processing software and peripheral equipment to create edit and maintain standardized office documents.

Must have the skills to:

Keyboarding; address complex customer complaints; deal with a culturally diverse population; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.

Must have the ability to:

Perform repetitive tasks with minimal errors; learn Workday and Eagle Treasurer software systems; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages; read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the County; evaluate facts or situations to determine appropriate action; and handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally and tactfully.
