Job Description

Under general supervision, processes all paperwork associated with building permitting and maintains accurate and up to date records on all permits and inspections. Prepares financial reports; schedules inspections and performs a variety of other secretarial and administrative tasks to ensure efficient and effective office operations. This position reports to the Building Official.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional as necessary. Accepts and processes applications for approval of permits; collects applicable fees; issues permits upon approval of Building Official. Prepares information packets for various types of permits. Receives and responds to public inquiries and complaints regarding the permitting process. Verifies validity of contractor licenses using the SCLLR database. Registers County mobile homes; verifies tax status of mobile home owners. Identifies parcels of land by tax map numbers, notes flood zone when applicable. Schedules inspections and reinspections. Contacts power company upon approval of electrical and gas inspections. Prepares monthly reports for submittal to other appropriate County offices; submits monthly deposit representing all fees collected to Treasurer's Office. Maintains accurate record of all department expenditures and revenue. Maintains adequate inventory of office supplies and equipment; orders supplies as needed. Performs a variety of general secretarial duties including but not limited to typing, copying, filing, mailing, faxing, keeping calendars, answering the telephone, etc. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents such as permit applications, plats, drawings, bank statements, general ledger, inventory report, inspection reports, various other reports, requisition forms, memos, correspondence, etc. Provides administrative support for Code Enforcement, Planning Commission, Building Official and Public Works; processes E-911 address application, Public Works maintenance requests, Code Enforcement complaints and nuisance forms. Qualifications
COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS REASONING REQUIREMENTS
Requires performing coordinating work involving guidelines and rules, with constant problem-solving.
MATHMATICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires using basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Requires reading technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires doing specialized technical or entry-level professional work requiring general understanding of operating policies and procedures and their application to problems not previously encountered; application of specialized technical or professional principles and practices or the use of wide range of administrative methods in the solution of problems requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure. VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION
Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training and one to two years of related experience.
