Job Description

Job Summary Responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the Sheriff's Office by establishing, updating, and maintaining department records, entering data in department systems, and preparing various reports. Job Functions
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates the VCIN terminal for the purpose of entering, researching, retrieving, and updating department records and criminal history databases Receives and enters arrest records, incident reports, and citations into the information system; files documents in appropriate manual files Records all arrests and reportable offenses on the Virginia State Police Records dispositions from court on criminal history and traffic citations; types cards for card catalog of criminal histories Processes all accident and incident reports for insurance coverage Mails fingerprint cards to the State Disseminate criminal history to record checks; maintains dissemination log; summaries criminal history files Responds to disposition requires for VSP Firearm checks Retrieve victim information for Crime Victim's department Processes
NCIC/VCIN
validation requests Responds to citizens' requests and needs whether they are made by phone or in person at the Sheriff's Office; directs citizens to the appropriate division within the office, if necessary
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs assigned duties as requested
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to use computers and computer aided technology (software/hardware/peripheral items) Ability to attend various training schools and pass/maintain required certifications Ability to prepare accurate and complete reports Ability to maintain confidentiality of Sheriff's Office records Ability to maintain and/or develop working relationships with Sheriff's Officer personnel, other local and State law enforcement agencies Must have the ability to evaluate situations, based on training/experience and policy/procedures, and make good decisions Must be able to obtain and maintain a
VCIN/NCIC

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as moderate physical effort. Tasks typically involve a combination of stooping, kneeling, and crouching, which may involve some lifting and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). May involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Requires ability to perform skills with coordinated movements, perceive and discriminate sounds, visual perception and oral communication.
