USPS®https://about.usps.com/careers A USPS City Carrier Assistant (CCA) assists in delivering and collecting mail along assigned routes, providing customer service, and ensuring accurate and timely mail handling.
Key ResponsibilitiesMail Delivery and Collection:
CCAs deliver mail and packages along prescribed routes, either on foot or using postal vehicles, and collect outgoing mail from street letterboxes and customers. They handle all classes of mail, including first-class, parcel post, registered, insured, and C.O.D. items, ensuring proper delivery and obtaining signatures when required Indeed+2.
Sorting and Preparation:
CCAs organize mail by address, case mail in sequence for efficient delivery, and prepare mail for relay boxes along the route. They may assist in loading and unloading trucks, carts, and mail bins, ensuring all items are ready for delivery
Customer Service:
CCAs provide professional assistance to USPS clients, answering questions, handling complaints, and offering postal forms or change-of-address cards as needed. They are expected to maintain courteous and effective communication with the public.
Record Keeping and Technology Use:
CCAs maintain accurate delivery records, including receipts for registered or insured mail, and use portable electronic scanners to track deliveries and collections.
Safety and Compliance:
CCAs follow USPS safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries, handle undeliverable mail according to established procedures, and report unusual incidents or conditions to supervisors .
Additional Duties:
Depending on the route and operational needs, CCAs may perform basic vehicle maintenance, assist with clerical tasks, deliver stamps or supplies to contract stations, and support other carriers as needed. Work Environment and Schedule CCAs are typically full-time alternates for regular letter carriers, working in a fast-paced, community-focused environment. They may work weekends, including Saturday and Sunday, and are required to be punctual for loading and unloading mail at the facility.
