Monday-Thursday; assigned work hours will fall within the 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. operating window Position Summary We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Mail/Shipping Administrator to support mailroom operations at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT). This position is responsible for the day-to-day processing, distribution, pickup, and delivery of mail and packages; electronic shipment processing; messenger and courier services; classified material handling; and maintenance of required mailroom records and reports. The ideal candidate has prior mailroom, shipping/receiving, logistics, or administrative support experience and is comfortable working in a secure Department of Defense environment. Key Responsibilities Process incoming, outgoing, and inter-office mail and packages. Perform scheduled mail pickup and delivery throughout the Newport Naval Station complex. Meter outgoing mail and process administrative shipments. Prepare and electronically manifest shipments using carriers such as FedEx and USPS. Perform scheduled and unscheduled messenger and courier runs. Receive and deliver classified material in accordance with established procedures. Maintain daily logs, records, reports, and operational statistics. Provide mail-related information and assistance to customers. Scan and enter unclassified letters and transmittals into the Correspondence Management System (CMS). Maintain record locators for classified letters and transmittals. Maintain and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for mailroom operations. Assist with vehicle maintenance coordination. Prepare reports for Government personnel as required. Support staff training related to safety, security, and job-specific procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Special Duties During certain circumstances, including weather closures, road construction, or heightened military security conditions, the Mail/Shipping Administrator may be required to pick up or deliver materials to designated processing facilities when commercial carriers are unable to access the naval station. Physical Requirements This is an active position that requires the ability to: Lift, push, and pull packages or objects weighing up to 70 pounds . Frequently sit, stand, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday. Climb multiple flights of stairs. Reach overhead and use a step ladder when necessary. Safely transport and handle mail, packages, and other materials. Required Qualifications Active Department of Defense Secret Clearance required. Minimum GED; high school diploma preferred. Minimum 1-2 years of mailroom or related experience; 3+ years preferred. Valid driver's license and excellent driving record. Reliable transportation. Ability to successfully meet applicable physical examination and drug-testing requirements. Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established security and operating procedures. Ability to work assigned hours within the facility's Monday-Thursday, 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. operating schedule. Preferred Experience Experience with one or more of the following is preferred: Mailroom or shipping/receiving operations FedEx, USPS, or other carrier shipping systems Electronic shipment manifesting Messenger or courier services Government or Department of Defense environments Handling controlled or classified materials Maintaining operational logs and reports
