Optical Receptionist / Assistant - Eyewear Consultant Full-Time | In Person | Downtown Sarasota We are seeking a friendly, professional, and detail-oriented Optical Receptionist / Assistant - Eyewear Consultant to join our team at Soto's Optical Boutique. In this role, you will be one of the first points of contact for our customers, providing exceptional customer service while assisting with eyewear selection, fittings, and day-to-day front desk responsibilities. Your personality and attention to detail will help create a welcoming environment where customers feel comfortable, valued, and confident in their eyewear choices. We are a small, hands-on team, so every member of our staff plays an important role. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys helping people, has a great attitude, and is interested in learning and growing with us. This position combines customer service, reception, eyewear styling, sales, and hands-on optical training . It is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people and fashion and is interested in learning the optical profession. Previous optical experience is a plus, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right person. For someone interested in building a long-term career in optical, there may also be an opportunity to participate in a Florida Optician Apprenticeship and work toward becoming a licensed optician. Responsibilities Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, professional service Answer phones and assist with general receptionist and front-desk responsibilities Assist customers with selecting eyewear based on style, fit, lifestyle, and prescription needs Help create a personalized styling experience and guide customers in choosing frames they feel confident wearing Learn about frames, prescription lenses, progressive lenses, coatings, transitions, sunglasses, and other lens options Assist with eyewear fittings, frame adjustments, measurements, and minor repairs as trained Enter and process customer orders accurately Operate our point-of-sale system and process payments Contact customers regarding order status, pickups, and follow-up needs Maintain accurate customer and prescription information Keep frame displays, work areas, and the boutique clean, organized, and presentable Assist with inventory, receiving eyewear, and organizing frame collections Learn basic optical laboratory procedures and assist with lens and frame work as trained Work closely with experienced optical staff while continuing to develop your optical knowledge What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is: Friendly, outgoing, professional, and comfortable working directly with customers Dependable, punctual, and organized Detail-oriented and able to multitask A strong communicator with excellent customer-service skills Comfortable answering phones and working with computers Interested in eyewear, fashion, styling, or retail Comfortable helping customers make purchasing decisions Willing and eager to learn the technical side of the optical profession Able to work well as part of a small, hands-on team Interested in developing a long-term position and potentially growing within the optical field Previous experience in optical, retail, fashion, sales, reception, or customer service is a plus, but it is not required. We are open to training someone who has the right personality, work ethic, and willingness to learn. Career Growth & Optician Apprenticeship For the right person, this position can become much more than a receptionist or retail role. We are open to training someone who wants to learn the optical profession and potentially become a Registered Apprentice Optician , gaining hands-on experience while working toward Florida optician licensure. You will have the opportunity to learn about eyewear, lenses, measurements, fittings, adjustments, frame repairs, and optical laboratory work while working alongside experienced optical professionals.
