Job Description

Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Receptionist Patient Scheduler within the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine ( RSDM ). Under general supervision, the Senior Receptionist Patient Scheduler carries out a variety of front desk services; serves as a receptionist, maintain appointment schedules, request charts, post payments, enters and updates patient demographic and insurance information and collect copayments. The Senior Receptionist Patient Scheduler also ensures that all registrations are complete and accurate, and that pertinent data is obtained from patient and entered into the computer system or updated as needed. Additionally, the Senior Receptionist Patient Scheduler develops and maintains good customer relations skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Registers patients presenting for treatment at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Enters all demographic and insurance information into appropriate computer system. Checks patients' identification as required by RSDM policies. Audits patients' data, such as address, to ensure the information is current. Obtains a copy of the patients' Medicaid/Medicaid HMO card each month, verifies and updates information as needed. Ensures that the designated insurance copayment is collected before patients are seen by students. Greets patients and visitors and explains clinic procedures and answers routine questions. Accurately schedules appointments. Provides patients with information such as directions, pre-visit instructions, insurance form requirements, etc. Responds with good customer service to patient inquiries or transfers, as appropriate, to a financial coordinator. Directs patients to the correct area of the dental school (Special Needs, Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Med, etc.). Informs students of their patients' arrival. Takes messages for students and advises them of patient appointments. Confirms appointments with patients. Reviews list of patients scheduled and outstanding balances to ensure that we are in compliance with NJDS Standard Operating Procedures and that patients are not delinquent. Calls patients with scheduling recall reminders, and advises them as needed to make payments. Arranges for scheduling with financial coordinators if required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible clerical experience required, including receptionist and scheduling duties.
