Job Description

Reports to the Chief Deputy Assessor / Assessor with a primary purpose of assisting in the preparation of the assessment records and serves as a support position for the mapping, appraisal, exemption programs and personal property staff. This class specification reflects the general concept and intent of the classification and should not be construed as a detailed statement of all work requirements that may be inherent in the position. The bulk of this job is to assist the mapping / appraisal / exemption / personal property staff with preparation of documentation, data entry and customer service support to the public through phone and in office visits. Work includes verification and input of correct data through existing Assessor's office software systems. Provides assistance in greeting public and answering the telephone, directing questions to the appropriate department and answering questions regarding property assessment and ownership information. Work can sometimes require field visits to property to gather and verify information. Research historic records of varying content. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Ability to organize work and meet established deadlines. Knowledge of proper phone etiquette and customer service techniques. Skilled in written and oral communication skills. Skilled in the use of standard office equipment i.e., computers, printers, calculators, etc. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office software. Skilled in attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers, supervisors and the general public. Skilled in the proper use of spelling, punctuation, and rules of grammar.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED. Two (2) years of experience in the real estate field. A valid Washington State driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Desirable Qualifications:
1 year experience in an Assessor's Office. Background in real estate or land surveying. Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires standing at the counter, walking back and forth to the vault, and moving boxes up to 30 pounds. Work is primarily performed in an office environment; however, some fieldwork on undeveloped terrain is essential. Fieldwork may be performed alone and in remote areas.
