Job Description
Automation Control Specialist Hourly Pay:
$32.00 - $49.00 Summary Responsible for programming, configuring, and maintaining existing industrial control systems to support safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties illustrate the general scope of the role and are not intended to be an exhaustive list. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Serve as a project lead on Peer Programming Safety Review (PPSR) initiatives when assigned. Define project scope, cost estimates, and schedule durations. Perform programming, configuration, and maintenance of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and supervisory control systems. Utilize engineering and configuration software tools for system design, calculations, programming updates, and reporting. Develop, review, and issue construction and design packages in accordance with project requirements. Prioritize work activities based on operational needs and direction from supervision. Provide electrical, instrumentation, and control system support to operations, maintenance, and project teams. Support Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) as required. Troubleshoot and resolve technical control system issues, coordinating with internal and external resources as needed. Specify minor equipment and complete associated technical documentation and data sheets. Review vendor quotations, evaluate technical documentation, and assist in vendor selection. Evaluate vendor bids and provide purchasing recommendations. Participate in and support Management of Change (MOC) processes. Ensure proper implementation and documentation of MOC procedures for all project work. Qualifications Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required. 3-5 years of related experience in control systems, automation, or programming, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with engineering and control system software tools. Technical Skills and Abilities Demonstrated experience programming, configuring, and troubleshooting one or more of the following systems: DeltaV, Allen-Bradley, Provox, or Modicon. Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and ISA standards. Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including instrument specifications, control logic diagrams, safety procedures, and maintenance manuals. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex control system issues. Ability to perform basic engineering calculations involving algebra and geometry. Communication and Interpersonal Skills Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact with diverse groups of employees and stakeholders. Ability to prepare routine reports and present information clearly to groups. Environmental Responsibilities The organization is committed to environmentally responsible operations. Supervisory and Budgetary Responsibilities This position does not have direct supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Physical Demands Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Moderate noise levels typical of industrial and office environments. Periodic exposure to electrical hazards.
