Job Description

About Best Life Best Life is building a programmable platform that empowers individuals to create highly personalized health and lifestyle experiences. The system collects, organizes, and analyzes data across many domains — nutrition, fitness, health, wellbeing, lifestyle, environment, labs, conditions, genetics, and more — to create personalized, actionable programs. The core technical foundation is already in place: a template engine that automates the majority of data capture, a planning and program system that turns templates into personalized, executable programs, and an analytics layer that surfaces real patterns and predictions. We are now focused on designing the intuitive experience layer that makes this powerful, multi-domain engine feel simple, coherent, and personal. About the Role We're looking for a Product Designer who thinks from first principles to design the unified UI and UX across the platform's programmable, multi-data-domain, and multi-modal interfaces. You will extract the essential patterns from many domain-specific tools and create a common set of interfaces, interactions, and visual languages that work elegantly across all domains. The core building blocks (templates, planning, and personalized programs) already exist — your job is to turn that model into experiences that feel consistent and intelligent no matter which combination of data a user engages with. In addition, you will design how AI capabilities are integrated into the product. This includes AI-assisted data categorization, intelligent nutrition lookups, AI-powered analytics and insights, in-app chat interfaces, experiences powered by the OpenClaw skill, and AI chat and tool-use through MCP. You will define when the experience should be structured versus AI-augmented or conversational, and design both the interfaces and the handoffs between them. This role is well suited to a designer who enjoys deep systems thinking and is comfortable designing both the structured layer and the AI layer on top of the same underlying model. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign the Unified Structured Experience Design the core UI/UX patterns for a programmable multi-domain system built on templates, planning, and personalized programs. Create consistent, elegant interaction models that allow users to work across many data domains (genetics, conditions, labs, environment, nutrition, exercise, symptoms, lifestyle, etc.) without fragmentation. Design input experiences, program creation and management flows, and visualization patterns that feel lightweight and coherent. Build modular, reusable design patterns and components that scale from consumer use cases to future researcher and clinical tools. Design AI-Augmented Interfaces and Experiences Design AI-assisted data categorization and enrichment flows that feel natural, transparent, and trustworthy. Design AI-powered nutrition lookup, suggestion, and analysis experiences. Design AI-enhanced analytics and insight surfaces that turn complex cross-domain data into clear, actionable understanding. Design in-app AI chat interfaces for data entry, insights, planning, and guidance. Design the user experience for AI capabilities delivered through the OpenClaw skill and through MCP-based chat and tool-use interfaces. Establish clear principles for when to use structured flows versus AI-driven or conversational approaches, and ensure the two modes work seamlessly together. Collaboration & Iteration Collaborate closely with engineering and technical leadership to ground designs in the actual capabilities of the platform. Use qualitative feedback and quantitative data to continuously improve the experience. Requirements - Must Haves Strong experience designing UI/UX for complex, data-rich, or multi-domain applications. Demonstrated first-principles design ability — the capacity to study many domain-specific tools, extract what is core, and synthesize cleaner, more unified experiences. Comfort designing on top of systems with real underlying models (templates, planning engines, rules, or programmable elements). Excellent visual and interaction design skills with a track record of creating coherent systems rather than isolated screens. Proficiency in Figma and experience building scalable, reusable design patterns and libraries. High fluency with modern AI tools and a proven ability to use them to dramatically accelerate your own design work. You must actively use AI (Claude, OpenAI, Grok, Gemini, Lovable, and similar tools) as a core part of your daily workflow to explore ideas, generate variants, write specifications, prototype, and deliver higher quality work faster. You should be prepared to show specific examples of how AI use has materially increased your output. Nice to Haves Background in digital health, quantified self, behavior change, research tools, or other complex personal data domains. Experience designing both consumer-facing and professional/B2B or clinical/research interfaces. Familiarity with how planning engines, templates, or agentic AI systems work under the hood. Experience designing conversational interfaces, AI agents, or human-AI collaboration patterns. Strong presentation and storytelling skills. Why This Role Is Interesting You will design the experience layer for a genuinely different kind of platform — one that is built from the ground up to be programmable across many health and lifestyle domains, with AI deeply integrated rather than bolted on. The core technical primitives are already working, so your design work will have immediate leverage. The role rewards people who enjoy solving hard interaction and systems design problems and who want to actively use AI to move faster and explore more deeply. Hiring Process We keep the process respectful of your time and aim to be transparent: 1. Intro conversation with the founder to explore mutual fit and answer your questions. 2. Portfolio review + design discussion with the founder and 1-2 team members. We'll go deep on your experience with complex systems, first-principles thinking, how you use AI to accelerate your own work, and examples of designing consistent experiences across different domains or data models. 3. Take-home design exercise focused on creating coherent, reusable experiences across multiple data domains while incorporating AI capabilities. 4. Final conversation to review the exercise, discuss how we would work together, and cover any remaining questions. Apply Now Ready to design the unified and AI-augmented experience layer for a programmable, multi-domain health platform? Submit your resume, portfolio, and a short note on why this kind of first-principles + AI interface work interests you.

What was the model, and how did you create consistency while still respecting the differences between domains? What AI design tools do you actively use in your day-to-day work? If yes, briefly describe how you approached the two modes and any tradeoffs you considered.
