We are looking for someone to Operate aerial devices, brush chippers, and work from elevated platforms. Trim, shape and remove trees, including tree trimming in close proximity to high voltage power lines, using gas, hydraulic and power chain saws, rope rigging, other hand tools and equipment. Clear and remove limbs, branches, and vegetation in close proximity to high and low voltage power lines, poles and transformers Hang banners and other special projects for City departments requiring an aerial device. Clean, sharpen and maintain tools and equipment. May be called to duty outside regular work hours for both scheduled and emergency work. Will be required, on occasion, to climb trees to remove vegetation and prune trees. Apply Tree Growth Regulators (TGR's). Qualifications we're looking for
Knowledge of:
Modern tree trimming methods and safety practices.
Ability to:
Interact effectively with the public and other employees. Skillfully operate an aerial device; Operate gas and hydraulic powered saws, trimmers, and edgers; Operate chipper and stump removal equipment; Work effectively in precarious positions at heights significantly above the ground; Perform tree rescue; Perform moderate and heavy physical labor, including lifting in excess of 50 pounds.
Education:
Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Typical experience would include two years of line clearance tree trimming experience.
Special Requirements:
Must meet Cal/OSHA Title 8 requirements for line clearance tree trimming (18 months experience). Must currently possess and maintain certification as a "Certified Arborist" issued by the International Society of Arboriculture. Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment. Must be able to enter and work in confined spaces, participate in the Confined Space Program, and perform confined space rescue. Examination Process:
The examination process may include a written examination, practical exercise, oral board interview, or any combination thereof. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list and may be used to fill current and future vacancies.
Selection Process:
Final appointment is contingent upon: Positive past employment references Review of a driver history record Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 or older) Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test
Veteran's Credit:
Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score. The City of Redding adheres to Cal/OSHA
