Job Description

Job Title Wildfire Mitigation Sawyer (A Faller) - Colorado Wildfire Mitigation Company Overview Colorado Wildfire Mitigation specializes in defensible space creation, hazardous fuels reduction, and wildfire risk reduction for residential, HOA, and commercial clients along the Front Range. We combine professional wildland experience with high quality equipment and a strong safety culture to protect communities in Colorado's wildland urban interface. Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Wildfire Mitigation Sawyer who is qualified as an A Faller (Type 1 Faller) to perform technical tree felling and fuels reduction in high risk, wildland urban interface settings. The ideal candidate has prior wildland fire or fuels experience, works safely and efficiently with a saw, and is comfortable interacting with homeowners and small crews in the field. Key Responsibilities Perform advanced tree felling, bucking, limbing, and brushing in steep, uneven, and wooded terrain in accordance with A Faller standards and best practices. Execute defensible space prescriptions around homes and structures, including thinning, ladder fuel removal, and hazardous tree mitigation. Assess tree hazards, lean, bind, and environmental factors to plan and execute safe felling operations. Operate and maintain chainsaws and related equipment, including daily inspection, sharpening, fueling, and minor field repairs. Work within established safety policies, including PPE use, OLEC, and compliance with standardized wildland procedures. Communicate clearly with crew leads, equipment operators, and homeowners to ensure safe, efficient project execution and good customer experience. Assist with slash processing, piling, chipping, and general fuels reduction work as needed. Work outdoors in all weather conditions, on steep and uneven ground, lifting and carrying heavy loads for extended periods. Minimum Qualifications Must be currently qualified as an A Faller (FAL1/Advanced Faller or equivalent experience and documentation). Demonstrated experience performing tree felling in wildland fire, logging, or mitigation operations. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Willing and able to travel up to 40 miles from Conifer for daily project work. Ability to work safely in physically demanding conditions (steep slopes, heat/cold, heavy lifting, long days on your feet). Ability to follow directions, work in a small team environment, and maintain a professional attitude with clients and coworkers. Preferred Qualifications Current or former NWCG "red card" (Incident Qualification Card) as a wildland firefighter. Candidates with red card experience will be given preference. Prior experience in wildfire mitigation, fuels reduction, or wildland fire suppression. Familiarity with defensible space standards and wildland urban interface operations. Basic first aid/CPR or higher medical certification. Work Schedule and Conditions Full‑time, seasonal or year‑round depending on workload and performance. Typical schedule is daytime, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends or extended days based on project needs and weather. Work is 100% field‑based and outdoors in variable Colorado weather conditions. How to Apply Please submit your resume detailing your saw experience, confirmation of A Faller qualification, and any red card or wildland certifications.
