Job Description

Part-Time Horticulture & Arborist Intern Location:
Eden, MD Schedule:
15-25 hours/week (seasonal flexibility)
Compensation:
Hourly, based on experience Overview We're looking for a motivated, hands-on intern to support both our horticulture team and our arborist operations. This role is ideal for students or early‑career individuals interested in plant science, nursery production, tree care, and outdoor work. You'll gain real experience in greenhouse care, nursery maintenance, pruning, tree health assessment, and customer interaction. Key Responsibilities Assist with daily plant care: watering, fertilizing, pruning, deadheading Support arborist tasks: basic pruning, debris cleanup, tree health checks, tool handling Help maintain nursery displays, benches, and plant organization Identify common plant issues (pests, diseases, stress) and report findings Prepare plants for sale: labeling, spacing, staging, and quality checks Assist with loading/unloading plant material, soil, and supplies Provide friendly customer assistance when needed Maintain clean, safe work areas indoors and outdoors What We're Looking For Interest in horticulture, arboriculture, botany, or environmental science Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, and varying weather Comfortable lifting 40-50 lbs and performing physical tasks Willingness to learn pruning techniques, tool safety, and plant ID Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic Previous nursery or landscaping experience is a plus but not required What You'll Learn Plant identification (annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees) Greenhouse and nursery production workflows Arborist fundamentals: pruning, tree structure, disease signs Customer service in a garden center environment Safe use of horticultural and arborist tools How to Apply Send your resume or a brief introduction of your experience and interest.
