Position Overview Thomas J Tree Care is seeking an Arborist Trainee to join our field team. This entry-level role is for someone who enjoys outdoor, hands-on work and wants to build a career in professional tree care. You'll support experienced arborists on the ground while learning safe work practices, equipment handling, and the fundamentals of tree care. What You'll Do Help set up work zones, move brush, manage ropes, and keep job sites clean and organized. Support climbers and crew members by preparing and moving tools and equipment safely. Learn to inspect, use, and maintain tools and equipment under supervision. Participate in job safety discussions, follow safety procedures, and speak up about hazards. Learn tree identification, pruning fundamentals, knots, rigging, and chainsaw safety through hands-on training. Help protect customers' property and represent the company professionally on every job. Qualifications Required Interest in trees, outdoor work, and learning a skilled trade. Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a willingness to accept coaching. Ability to work safely and communicate well as part of a crew. Preferred Valid driver's license. Experience in landscaping, construction, forestry, or other outdoor work. Prior tree care experience is not required. Training & Growth This position is the starting point in our arborist career progression system. You'll develop ground operations and equipment skills first, with opportunities to work toward Arborist, Bucket Operator, and Climber development tracks as your skills grow.
