Employer match of up to 3% Paid Time Off (PTO): 28 paid vacation days annually 6 paid holidays annually 5 paid personal days annually Position Summary The Assistant Director supports the Director in the planning, coordination, and daily operation of environmental education field trips and outdoor learning experiences. This position serves as second-in-command and helps ensure that programs are educational, safe, well-organized, and delivered to a consistently high standard. Primary Responsibilities Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of environmental education field trips. Participate directly in environmental education and outdoor programs, including, but not limited to, one-day field trips, two•to three-day overnight programs, and extended-duration trips. Coordinate daily program logistics, including transportation, activity schedules, equipment, meals, accommodations, and program sites. Communicate with teachers, administrators, parents, vendors, and program partners regarding program requirements and logistics. Assist in developing and implementing environmental education curriculum and hands-on learning activities. Ensure programs follow established safety procedures, emergency protocols, risk-management practices, and applicable regulations. Conduct pre-program inspections and ensure equipment and supplies are properly maintained and available. Maintain accurate program records, schedules, participant information, incident documentation, and other required reports. Assist the Director with staff meetings, training, performance evaluations, program development, and long-range planning. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Education, Recreation, Education, Biology, Natural Resources, Hospitality/Tourism, or a related field preferred. Previous experience in environmental education, outdoor recreation, camp management, student travel, field-trip programming, or a related field. Supervisory or management experience preferred. Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple programs, schedules, staff members, and logistical requirements simultaneously. Comfortable working with students, teachers, school administrators, vendors, and outdoor education professionals. Ability and willingness to work outdoors and participate in field activities. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Level 2 background screening or equivalent clearance when required. Current Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certification required or obtained within the designated employment period. Skills and Characteristics The successful Assistant Director should demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgment, attention to detail, professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to remain organized in a fast-paced environment. The position requires an individual who can work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a management team.
