$55/hour Organization Overview Monroe County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is one of the 10 SWCDs that are members of the Genesee River Watershed Coalition of Conservation Districts (GRWCCD) that was formed in 2016 to cooperatively promote, and implement, the conservation and improvement of natural resources on lands both public and private within the Genesee River Watershed (GRW). With funding for the next 5 years from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the GRWCCD is looking for a skilled Watershed Agricultural Coordinator on a contract basis to assist the SWCDs within the GRW with the continued management of the coalition with the goal to improve water quality and resiliency to extreme weather through implementation of actions aligned with the clean water plans in the GRW and New York's Great Lakes Action Agenda. Job Summary This position is responsible for researching, planning and implementation of agricultural best management practices through the Agricultural Environmental Management Program as well as coordinating various programs related to water quality and natural resource restoration projects within the Genesee River Watershed. Duties involve interaction with federal, state and local agencies, contractors, and landowners, to accomplish program objectives. The employee reports to the Executive Director of the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinatesagricultural programsand projectswith GeneseeRiver Watershedcounties;
  • Collectsand tracksdata, includinghigh qualityagricultural dataneeded forGenesee RiverModeling;
  • Creates annual data reports related to the Genesee River Watershed program;
  • Assists in development and implementation of project plans and meeting grant deliverables;
  • Assists in field project management and construction oversight with GRW counties;
  • Performs grant program management by tracking and monitoring funds;
  • Writes and/or assists with grant applications for multiple counties within the GRW;
  • Providesleadership andoutreach tofederal, state,and locallegislators on agricultural issues with relevance to the Genesee River watershed;
  • Develops and implements educational and technical training programs and initiatives;
  • Creates and organizes educational media material to inform landowners of projects and programs for the Genesee River Watershed;
  • Develops various reports related to Genesee River Watershed program and activities.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics Ability to write grants and manage grant contracts; good knowledge of principles and practices of natural resource conservation; good knowledge of best management practices for water quality, water management, and related practices; good knowledge of environmental planning and construction; good knowledge of effective business management; good knowledge of personnel management; working knowledge of applicable state and local regulations and programs pertaining to natural resource and soil and water conservation; working knowledge of related geographic information systems (GIS); ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with local officials, property owners, contractors, and the general public; ability to read and interpret laws; ability to write clear and concise correspondence and reports; ability to effectively present program materials to groups; ability to communicate orally and in writing; organizational ability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Requirements and Qualifications 1.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and either: (A) a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Geography, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Business Management, Agricultural Management, a related agricultural field, or a physical or biological natural science, plus three years of paid full-time experience in agriculture, farming, environmental planning, or environmental science-related work; or (B) a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields plus five years of paid full-time experience in the same areas. 2.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Currentlycertified bythe AmericanSociety ofAgronomy asa CertifiedCrop Adviser(CCA); 2. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders; 3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; 4. Knowledge of Ag BMP Systems Catalog for NYS; 5. Previous experience applying for, receiving, and managing state and or federal grants; 6. Working knowledge of GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro, ArcOnline, etc.)
Tools:
Must have own office equipment and software licenses, supplies, and vehicle.
Training/Conferences:
Registration costs for workshops, conferences, and training will be covered by the organization.

Payment Terms:
Paid upon submittal of monthly activity report and invoice for compensation of time on a schedule set by the organization.
Benefits:
Health insurance, paid time off, NYS and Local Retirement, and mileage/travel reimbursement are not included, as this is a contract position.
Requirements:
Candidates must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Must be willing and able to work occasional evenings and/or weekends; must be able to travel overnight occasionally.
Insurance:
The candidate, if hired, shall, at its own expense, procure and maintain a policy or policies of insurance with required limits set by the organization during the term of the contract.
