Job Description

Job Summary Austin Zoo is currently seeking a part-time Zoo Educator. Educators are responsible for assisting field trip programs, outreach programs, scout workshops, homeschool programs and early childhood programs. This role also involves one day school holiday camps, assisting with ten weeks of summer camp, assisting with planning special programs such as our annual Homeschool Day. Additionally, the educator will engage guests on zoo grounds through exhibit interpretation, biofacts . This position involves handling a variety of small ambassador animals.
Required Experience and Education:
Completion or pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, Education, or related field from an accredited college or university. Previous youth program experience deseired. Responsibilities Enthusiastically engage guests in inquiry-based learning activities. Engage zoo guests in strategically framed discussions regarding conservation and animal welfare. Demonstrate and encourage respect for animals during education programs. Assist Education team members. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Aptitudes Demonstrate a strong interest and/or experience in animal and environmental education. Enjoy working with children of all ages and abilities. Ability to adapt and make quick, responsible decisions and improvise when needed. Display a high level of patience and respond well under pressure. Comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people. Enthusiastic, creative, adaptable, patient and able to work both independently and with a team. Ability to work outdoors under various weather conditions, extreme heat or cold. Additional Requirements At least 18 years old. Possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Successful completion of a background check. Ability to lift and move 50 lbs. Ideal candidate will work Thursday - Sunday, special events and some evenings. Ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time. Benefits Employee discount
