Performs job duties requiring specialized knowledge in the area of assignment. Assists supervisor with recommendations for evaluation purposes and assigns day to day duties in the absence of the supervisor. Duties & Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to): Serves as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work and providing direction; provides input and recommendations for evaluation of subordinate staff.

Performs preventative maintenance on the irrigation system including the lake re-circulation system and water features.

Determines wet and dry areas for adjustments of sprinkler heads.

Properly inventories and stocks all irrigation parts and tools in order to minimize down time.

Maintains working knowledge of pump station maintenance requirements.

Operates, maintains and repairs a complex irrigation system, including leaks on the distribution lines, valve risers, electrical system, computer and irrigation control wire.

Reports any serious irrigation breaks immediately to the Superintendent and maintains a daily log of completed repairs.

Prioritizes irrigation breaks and uses time efficiently.

Conducts monthly checks of all sprinkler heads on the entire golf facility.

Routinely inspects irrigation system components to ensure system is operating properly.

Responsible for winterization and blowout of irrigation system, including all water lines, valves and pump stations.

Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.

Regularly works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and faces risk of electrical shock. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; fumes or airborne particles. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally works in extreme cold or heat (non-weather).

Regularly stands, walks and sits. Regularly uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, talks or hears. Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes or smells. Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of General knowledge of grounds maintenance.

Knowledge of Computerized systems and time clocks, electrical wiring and wire function, blue staking identification and trade-service support.

Knowledge of Underground lawn sprinkler system repair and installation techniques and the design and redesign of irrigation systems.

Knowledge of Mechanical maintenance including electrical, plumbing and carpentry.

Knowledge of Knowledge in math sufficient to figure pipe flows, gallonages, pipe sizing, friction losses, run time, systems efficiency, spacing and head selections.

Knowledge of Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and a willingness to learn.

Repair and installation of underground lawn sprinkler systems.

Ability to read blue prints.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED; Certificate from college or technical school; Two years related experience with turfgrass irrigation systems and/or training; OR; Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
