A Farm, Nursery, or Greenhouse Worker propagates, cultivates and harvests plants, primarily flowers, trees, shrubs and sod, and other crops such as mushrooms that are grown in greenhouses, or grows and harvests farm crops such as grain, fruit or vegetables. Operates and maintains equipment used to grow and harvest plants and crops. Cares for animals including dairy cows or chickens, pigs or other animals raised for meat.
Performs irrigation tasks for row-crop vegetables, including driving irrigation tractors/RTV's with trailers, laying and repairing irrigation pipes and drip tape, monitoring pressure, water flow and booster pumps, inspecting irrigated areas to prevent waste, and ensuring all equipment is handled safely and maintained properly. Yuma-Imperial Region Areas of Responsibility:
Performs all irrigation operations and communicates with management for vegetable row-crop production. Inspects, cleans, maintains and repairs; tractors/RTV's, trailers, ditches, drip tape machines, wells, booster pumps, and water distribution systems along with any other equipment associated with irrigation. Performs irrigation operations to lay and connect irrigation pipes or drip tape for pre-irrigation, germination, and growing the crop. Ensures that proper safety measures are utilized in the handling and operation of irrigation equipment involved with pressurized water, applied pesticides, and applied fertilizers. Inspect, adjust, and repair irrigation system for each area being irrigated to ensure adequate watering and to prevent water waste.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Requires one year of irrigation experience. A high school diploma (or GED), preferred.
Language Skills:
Able to read and write simple instructions and communicate effectively in small group or in one‑on‑one settings.
Mathematical Skills:
Able to perform basic arithmetic and work with standard units of weight, volume, and distance, preferred.
Reasoning Ability:
Able to follow detailed but straightforward instructions and solve simple problems with limited variables.
Other Qualifications Physical Demands:
Requires regular standing and walking, frequent use of hands and climbing, occasional lifting up to 100 lbs, and the ability to perform tasks requiring close and distance vision.
Work Environment:
Involves working outdoors in varying weather, frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions, and a generally moderate noise level.
