Company Overview Andalusia Country Club is a premier private country club located in La Quinta, California with dramatic views of the nearby Santa Rosa Mountains is seeking a full-time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Andalusia Country Club was designed by Rees Jones and features expansive turf and landscape backdrops unique to golf in the Coachella Valley. Job Overview The Head Irrigator-Foreman (under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Golf Course Superintendents, and/or Head Mechanic), is responsible for the operation, programming, and maintenance and all aspects of the golf course irrigation system. The Head Irrigator is required to report any irregularities in course turf quality to Managers. In addition, the Head Irrigator acts as a Foreman with limited supervisory capacity. When needed (i.e. times when Managers are off or cannot be reached) they act in this capacity. Responsibilities include delegating work assignments, overseeing job performance and inspecting course conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervises and works alongside other irrigators within the department assigning daily tasks and schedules.
• Operation, maintenance, service, and repair of the irrigation system.
• Assists Managers with communicating job tasks and translation.
• Recommends daily adjustments to central irrigation computer as needed.
• Communicate daily with Managers on status of irrigating the golf course - dry spots, wet spots, leaks, any repairs that need to be completed.
• Operates irrigation central computer, field controller, pipe, valves, irrigation sprinkler heads, light/ heavy vehicles, tractors, riding mowers and push mowers.
• Documents and communicates to Managers any irrigation changes in the central irrigation computer.
• Audits, troubleshoots, and makes updates to irrigation system.
• Uses hand tools, water hoses, sod cutter, and weed eater.
• Shovels dirt, sand, and other material.
• Installs and repairs drainage including sumps.
• Works with and troubleshoots electrical wiring issues as related to the irrigation system and sumps.
• Keeps work area neat and organized as necessary for efficient job performance.
• Applies independent judgment and initiative in the completion of assigned tasks.
• Prepares inventory of all irrigation items on property and recommends purchases to maintain inventory.
• With prior approval, orders irrigation parts and tools.
• Occasionally supervises a small labor force for special projects, and performs other duties as directed by Managers.
• Records and communicates daily pump station and canal meter readings.
• Takes moisture readings as requested. Makes necessary watering adjustments based on specific moisture %
• A desire to learn and participate in the ongoing improvement and enhancement of the golf courses.
• Performs all other duties and responsibilities in a timely manner as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Foreman.
• Other duties may be assigned including Equipment Operator, Greenskeeper, and Spray Technician tasks

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscaped area maintenance work.

Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment. Ability to follow oral and written directions. Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulic related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and of various types of pumps and pumping systems. Limited knowledge of agronomy, turf grass science and rules of golf.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities
• The ability to communicate effectively one a one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, members and to other company personnel is extremely important. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to write simple correspondence
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume

Pay:

$26.88 - $28.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
