• Appreciation About the Community Food Program The Community Food Program (CFP) addresses food access challenges at the root level by connecting farmers and community.

By providing mobile market opportunities for beginning, urban farms as well as local farms in the surrounding tri-county region, the Community Food Program increases access to local, sustainably-grown food for residents of Yolo and Sacramento County, CA. By making this connection, these communities can work together to build a more equitable and resilient food system. Position Overview The Center for Land-Based Learning is seeking a part-time seasonal Farm and Market Assistant for Community Food Program operations in Yolo and Sacramento Counties. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Programs, this position will work alongside Community Food Program Coordinators, primarily splitting time between CLBL's Mobile Farmers' Market Truck in Yolo and Sacramento Counties (5-10 hours/week), Sycamore Trail Community Orchard and Riverfront Farm in the Bridge District of West Sacramento (5-10 hours/week). With MFM operations occurring 7 days a week, this position may require evenings or weekend hours as needed for program operations and could also involve occasional travel to our main Headquarters in Woodland, CA. As Farm and Market Assistant, the candidate will assist the CFP Coordinators with all operations related to running the Mobile Farmer's Market from set-up and sales to closing and breakdown. In addition to supporting the Mobile Farmer's Market operations, the candidate will also assist in supporting the operations of Riverfront Farm. Core Responsibilities Job duties include, but are not limited to: Mobile Market Support (70%) Perform the setup, operation, and breakdown of the Mobile Farmer's Market in collaboration with other CFP staff. Provide customer service to patrons of the mobile market including, supporting their shopping needs, weighing & bagging produce for MM customers, and assisting in the checkout process. Support CFP Coordinators at the Aggregation Facility/Hub, moving produce out of the Aggregation Facility/the Hub cooler to processing tables and the truck fridge. Storing all produce, ice packs, and materials back at the Hub, sorting through leftover produce, sweeping truck & Hub floors, wiping down surfaces, sanitizing crates and washing plastic containers. Assist in promotion and marketing needs for the Mobile Farmers' Market including distributing flyers, promoting stops to the local community, and assisting in content collection for social media and marketing needs. Farm Support (30%) Assist the CFP Coordinator with field duties including irrigation, bed prep, planting, weeding, crate washing, direct seeding, harvesting, weighing, washing and packing produce, logging the harvest & basic farm maintenance. Support the CFP Coordinator in guiding interns/volunteers with farm duties as needed. Participate in farm tours, agritourism events, community workdays, field trips, and other program public engagements. Coordinate and complete postseason farm close-down procedures alongside CFP Coordinator Keep farm fields, storage shed and surrounding areas organized. Engage in friendly interactions with public that pass by including answering questions regarding CLBL and its operations.
