Job Description

The Greenhouse & Nursery Employee is responsible for the daily care, production, maintenance, and preparation of plants within the greenhouse, nursery, and growing areas. This position requires a dependable individual who is comfortable working outdoors and in greenhouse environments, performing physical labor, and working with plants, fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation systems, and nursery equipment. The ideal candidate takes pride in maintaining healthy, high-quality plants and keeping the nursery clean, organized, and productive. Essential ResponsibilitiesPlant Care & Production Water plants according to established schedules and plant needs. Monitor plants for proper growth, health, moisture, pests, and disease. Propagate plants through cuttings, seeds, division, and other approved methods. Plant, transplant, and repot nursery plants. Space and organize plants to promote proper growth. Prune, trim, groom, and clean plants as needed. Remove dead, damaged, diseased, or pest-infested plant material. Weed greenhouse, nursery, and growing areas. Fertilize plants according to established schedules and instructions. Monitor plant nutrition and report issues to management. Identify common pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and plant-health issues and report them to management. Chemical & Pest Management Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers, and other agricultural products as directed and permitted. Follow all pesticide labels, safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies. Maintain accurate chemical application records when required. Safely handle, store, and clean up agricultural chemicals. Assist with integrated pest management and pest monitoring. Irrigation & Greenhouse Maintenance Perform minor irrigation repairs and adjustments. Replace or repair basic irrigation lines, emitters, valves, fittings, and tubing. Monitor irrigation systems for leaks, clogged emitters, broken lines, and other problems. Maintain proper greenhouse watering systems. Assist with greenhouse fans, shade cloth, benches, hoses, and other growing equipment. Report major irrigation or equipment problems to management. Nursery Operations Receive, unload, move, and organize plants and materials. Load plants, soil, fertilizer, pots, and other materials for customer or company orders. Prepare plants for sale, delivery, or installation. Maintain accurate plant counts and assist with inventory. Price, label, tag, and organize plants when requested. Rotate plants and maintain proper plant presentation. Assist customers when needed and provide basic plant-care information. Keep greenhouse and nursery areas clean, organized, and safe. General Maintenance Clean and maintain greenhouse benches, floors, work areas, tools, and equipment. Maintain hand tools, hoses, carts, wheelbarrows, and other nursery equipment. Dispose of plant waste and debris properly. Assist with general farm and nursery maintenance as needed. Follow all company safety procedures. Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, plant-health issues, and other concerns to management. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds . Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, and work for extended periods. Ability to work in hot, humid, wet, dusty, and outdoor conditions. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as watering, planting, weeding, pruning, and moving plants. Ability to safely operate basic nursery tools and equipment. Ability to work around fertilizers, pesticides, soil, plants, insects, and other agricultural materials while following required safety procedures. Qualifications Previous nursery, greenhouse, landscaping, farming, or agricultural experience preferred. Knowledge of basic plant care preferred. Ability to learn proper pesticide and fertilizer application procedures. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Positive attitude and willingness to perform a variety of tasks. Must be willing to learn new plant varieties, production methods, and nursery procedures. Work Expectations Employees are expected to: Arrive on time and ready to work. Other Duties This position may be required to perform additional duties related to greenhouse, nursery, farm, retail, landscaping, or general company operations as assigned by management. Pay will be based on experience and knowledge.
