Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Veg Lead is a crucial role in the cultivation process of cannabis plants. This person typically oversees the vegetative stage of cannabis growth, which is the phase before flowering. This role requires a deep understanding of plant biology, cultivation techniques, and cannabis-specific requirements. Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are also essential for success in Veg Lead position.

6:00 am - 4:30 pm, Tuesday - Friday
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
Monitoring and maintaining the health of cannabis plants during the vegetative stage. This includes watering, feeding, pruning, and pest management. Ensuring optimal environmental conditions such as light, temperature, humidity, and ventilation to promote healthy growth. Creating and implementing feeding schedules, monitoring nutrient levels, and adjusting as needed to prevent deficiencies or excesses. Leading a team of growers or assistants, providing training, assigning tasks, and ensuring work is done efficiently and according to regulations. Keeping detailed records of plant growth, nutrient usage, environmental conditions, and any issues encountered. This data helps in improving cultivation techniques and ensuring compliance with regulations. Identifying and addressing any issues that may arise during the vegetative stage, such as nutrient deficiencies, pests, diseases, or environmental problems. Ensuring all cultivation activities comply with local laws, regulations, and industry standards, including proper labeling, tracking, and documentation. Staying updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to continuously improve cultivation techniques and maximize yield and quality.
JOB REQUIREMENTS A
high school diploma or equivalent is usually required, although higher education such as a degree or certification in horticulture, botany, agriculture, or a related field can be beneficial. Previous experience in cannabis cultivation, particularly in managing the vegetative stage, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of plant biology, growth cycles, nutrient requirements, and pest management specific to cannabis plants. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including experience in supervising, and training staff, assigning tasks, and ensuring productivity and compliance with regulations. Proficiency in using cultivation equipment such as lighting systems, irrigation systems, climate control systems, and nutrient delivery systems. Familiarity with cannabis cultivation techniques such as pruning, topping, and training methods is also important. Ability to identify and address issues related to plant health, nutrient deficiencies, pests, diseases, and environmental factors. Strong problem-solving skills are crucial for maintaining healthy plants and maximizing yield. Knowledge of local and state regulations regarding cannabis cultivation, including record-keeping, labeling, tracking, and safety protocols. Experience working in a compliant cannabis cultivation facility is often preferred. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for coordinating tasks, training staff, reporting on progress, and collaborating with other departments or stakeholders. A keen eye for detail is necessary to monitor plant health, identify abnormalities, and ensure all cultivation activities are performed accurately and according to standard operating procedures. Cannabis cultivation can be physically demanding, requiring candidates to be able to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in various environmental conditions. A genuine interest in cannabis cultivation and a commitment to producing high-quality products while adhering to ethical and sustainable practices are often valued by employers in the cannabis industry.
