The Cultivation Associate plays a crucial role in our Cultivation department, supporting the Supervisor(s) and Manager(s) in all aspects of plant care and company goals. This role encompasses various responsibilities, including transplanting, pruning, defoliating, trellising, integrated pest management, harvesting, and bucking. The Cultivation Associate is also responsible for trimming, drying, binning, curing, waste disposal, and maintaining cleanliness in all plant-related areas. Daily responsibilities include conducting routine inspections for pests, pathogens, and other plant health issues, following proper plant care protocols, performing routine maintenance tasks, maintaining a clean work environment, updating logs and records, collaborating with the cultivation team and other departments, and identifying areas for improvement in cultivation practices. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine passion for horticulture and agriculture, thriving in a collaborative team environment.Daily Responsibilities:
Plant Care and Maintenance:
- Assist in daily inspections for pests, pathogens, mold, fungi, disease, or other undesired conditions.
- Follow proper plant pruning, moving, trellising, harvesting, trimming, drying, and curing processes and protocols according to company guidelines.
- Perform all day-to-day plant routine maintenance throughout the growth, harvesting, and cure stages.
- Watering and monitoring plant health, ensuring plants receive proper nutrients and care. Atmosphere Conditions
- Monitor atmosphere conditions daily to ensure they meet the dead bands set up for success (temperature, humidity, airflow, CO2, lighting, irrigation, media moisture content, etc.)
- Immediately notify your superior if atmospheric conditions are outside the normal range or if you see an anomaly.
Facility Maintenance:
- Conduct routine cleaning tasks to ensure a clean and tidy work area.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the cultivation facility, including cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas.
Compliance and Record Keeping:
- Regularly update logs pertinent to job scope, including plant care, maintenance activities, and any other required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with state and local regulations regarding cannabis cultivation and record-keeping.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the cultivation team and other departments to ensure the successful operation of the cultivation facility.
- Assist in other duties to ensure success for the team, department, and company division.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify areas for improvement in cultivation practices and processes and make recommendations to management.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in cannabis cultivation.
Qualifications:
Age:
You must be at least 21 years old to work in the cannabis industry in Illinois.Residency:
You must be a resident of Illinois. 2Background Check:
You must pass a background check, which includes reviewing your criminal history and compliance with cannabis regulations.Agent Identification Card:
You must obtain a Dispensing Organization Agent Identification Card (DOA ID Card) from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). This card is required for all employees working in the cannabis industry in Illinois.- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field is preferred, with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
- Experience in a production or manufacturing environment is also preferred, with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
- Knowledge of cannabis cultivation practices and familiarity with state and local regulations about cannabis cultivation is preferred.
- Proficiency in fundamental mathematics, organizational abilities, and computer literacy are prerequisites, particularly with the Google Workspace suite of applications.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, data-driven environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
- The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented and able to follow processes and procedures accurately.
- Must have a genuine interest in learning about cannabis cultivation and a willingness to collaborate and work as a team.
Working Conditions:
- This position operates in a controlled indoor environment with regulated temperature and humidity levels typical of indoor cultivation facilities.
- The role involves working with cannabis plants, which may expose individuals to plant allergens, pesticides, and other agricultural chemicals. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn as required.
- Candidates should be able to stand for prolonged periods, bend, kneel, squat, and twist as necessary.
- The work environment may include exposure to plant pollen and continuous noise from fans and motors.
- As part of the cultivation process, employees may be required to lift and move heavy objects, including bags of soil, plant containers, and equipment up to 40Ibs
- The work schedule may include occasional weekend and holiday shifts to support the needs of the cultivation operation.
