A Farm, Nursery, or Greenhouse Worker propagates, cultivates and harvests plants, primarily flowers, trees, shrubs and sod, and other crops such as mushrooms that are grown in greenhouses, or grows and harvests farm crops such as grain, fruit or vegetables. Operates and maintains equipment used to grow and harvest plants and crops. Cares for animals including dairy cows or chickens, pigs or other animals raised for meat.

Job Description

This is irrigation work assisting in conducting general irrigation repairs, installation of irrigation equipment, stocking supplies in work truck and some grounds keeping duties. The days and hours for this position: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
Bargaining Unit:
Service Employee's International (SEIU) •Employees within the department of division shall be given first consideration•Conducting irrigation systems testing Install irrigation nozzles, valves, drains and pipe. Make repairs to irrigation systems Removes snow from walks May oversee seasonal employees in the absence of the supervisor Test, installs, and repairs backflow prevention devices Assist with prescribed burns These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other related duties may be assigned as needed Some knowledge of the standard tools, equipment materials, methods and practices used in irrigation and grounds maintenance work Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the work Working knowledge of the irrigation systems and irrigation controllers Skills in the use of standard hand and power equipment used to perform irrigation tasks Ability to push and/or pull and operate standard irrigation equipment over rough terrain Ability to lift and carry up to 150 lbs. with the assistance of another person Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license. Be able to secure a Class "A" CDL driver's license within six (6) months of hire. If you are a Canadian or Mexican citizen, you will be required to have or obtain a CDL from your home country. Be able to secure a City of Wichita Backflow Prevention Installer/Tester Technicians Certificate within six (6) months of hire Required Experience and Training Six months of experience as a skilled worker in irrigation repair work. A valid driver's license. Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial driver's license is required within six (6) months of hire. If you are a Canadian or Mexican citizen, you will be required to have or obtain a CDL from your home country. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship. Preferred Experience and Training A valid Class A Commercial driver's license. Please note that this position is part of a random drug testing pool, and employees are subject to random drug testing in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre=employment physical, which includes drug screening, and satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
