A Farm, Nursery, or Greenhouse Worker propagates, cultivates and harvests plants, primarily flowers, trees, shrubs and sod, and other crops such as mushrooms that are grown in greenhouses, or grows and harvests farm crops such as grain, fruit or vegetables. Operates and maintains equipment used to grow and harvest plants and crops. Cares for animals including dairy cows or chickens, pigs or other animals raised for meat.
The Farm Technician will report to the KSU Aquaculture Farm Manager and will serve as a support person for the Aquaculture Program/Research Center, in the college of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. This position will assist in maintaining Aquaculture Research Center activities such as mowing, general maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, light electrical work, harvesting, and assisting in the care of animals. Duties also include fertilizing, grounds keeping, and aquatic pesticide and herbicide application. Some weekend work will be required on an as needed basis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide facilities support at the KSU Aquaculture Research Center in the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources (KSU) Assists in the management of operations at the KSU Aquaculture Research Center Assists in conducting farm activities such as unloading shipments, harvesting, and repair work as needed Assist with grounds keeping such as mowing and trimming Assist in making repairs and improvements Assist with monitoring and weekly checks of safety systems Responding to urgent animal care situations, including afterhours Maintaining clean and organized research spaces as needed Other related duties as required
