Job Description

Van Wingerden International is a wholesale greenhouse that produces indoor floral crops, spring bedding, garden mums, poinsettias, and many combos and planters for the spring. We do some perennials but our primary focus is annual production for the large box stores. We are currently looking for Growers and Assistant Growers. The primary responsibilities of a Grower is to be responsible for specified sections of the greenhouse and the crops produced within. This includes environmental controls, water management, IPM, disease control, growth regulation, plant nutrition, record keeping, and the overall day to day care of the crops. These individuals must be able to work well with others and be able to supervise and monitor assistant growers that are there to assist them in these duties. They must be willing to work some evenings and work a weekend rotation with other growers. These individuals need to be self- starters and be able to manage their time well. A college degree in the field is desirable but not necessary if the person has had adequate experience to carry out these tasks. Growers in these positions work under a Head Grower for a specific range and according to the size of the sections might have assistant growers that help them carry out these tasks. Assistant growers are here to work with both the Head growers and Growers to assist them in carrying out the tasks that are listed above. Assistant Growers need to be able to work with and take instruction from a number of different people as the might be asked to work where they are needed at different times during the seasons.
