Farmer/Field Staff

Job Summary:

This position involves all aspects of growing diversified vegetables for a 300+ member CSA. The job candidate will be part of a farm team tasked with growing weekly farm shares from seed to harvest.

Responsibilities:

Take part in implementing a crop plan and harvesting schedule for current season. Utilize sustainable organic agricultural methods, including hand and tractor cultivation, scouting and implementation of pest management strategies. Helps with irrigation practices as is necessary. Works with the team to tend growing crops in the fields and greenhouses including seeding, watering, thinning, potting up and weeding. Assists with harvesting and preparing produce for distribution. Uses appropriate tools and equipment to efficiently complete tasks and ensure proper cleaning, storing and maintenance of tools. At times aids CSA Administrative Coordinator with community programming including school group programs and volunteer programs. Participate in Open Houses and farm events for CSA members and the public. Leads work groups in the field completing maintenance and harvest activities. Must have some experience working in agriculture, landscaping, horticulture or associated fields. Ability to work in collaboration with team members, work independently and manage multiple priorities. Some experience with power tools. Some familiarity with organic principles. Must be physically fit, able to stand, bend, kneel, and squat for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in all weather conditions. 40 to 50 hours per week, Monday-Friday with some seasonal Saturday morning work (mostly in May and June), and weekend chores on a rotational basis Shared housing in a historic farmhouse on the farm with a private bedroom is available Pay rate will be determined depending on experience and housing needs

Pay:

$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
