Job Description

Overview Join our dedicated team as an Aviculturist, where you will play a vital role in the care, management, and scientific study of avian species. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to work closely with a diverse range of bird species, contributing to conservation efforts, research initiatives, and educational programs. As an Aviculturist, you will be at the forefront of animal care and scientific research, ensuring the health and well-being of our avian populations while supporting environmental stewardship and legal compliance. Duties Provide daily care and enrichment for a variety of bird species, ensuring their health, safety, and comfort through proper handling and habitat management. Provide care of their environment to keep predators out of their sanctuary Monitor animal physiology, behavior, and anatomy to detect signs of illness or distress, administering medications or treatments as prescribed by veterinary staff Conduct scientific research related to avian taxonomy, microbiology, and environmental law to support conservation projects and improve husbandry practices Maintain detailed records of animal health, breeding activities, and research data Assist with laboratory procedures medication administration, and sample collection to support veterinary diagnostics Handle animals safely using appropriate restraint techniques while adhering to animal handling protocols and safety standards Support habitat horticulture efforts by managing plantings that contribute to naturalistic environments for the birds Qualifications Strong knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, and veterinary care specific to avian species Experience with scientific research methods, Familiarity with environmental law related to wildlife conservation and habitat protection Proven ability in animal handling, restraint, pet care Laboratory experience including sample processing and medication administration is preferred Knowledge of horticulture principles relevant to maintaining naturalistic bird habitats Previous experience working as a zoo keeper or in a similar aviculture role is advantageous Embark on a rewarding career where your expertise directly impacts avian conservation and animal welfare for 500 endangered and protected waterfowl.
