Job Summary The Golf Course Irrigation Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the irrigation system at Page Belcher Golf Course. This position plays a critical role in maintaining healthy turf and quality playing conditions by ensuring water is applied accurately, efficiently, and reliably throughout both golf courses and practice areas. The Irrigation Technician works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, and maintenance team to identify irrigation needs, make repairs, monitor system performance, and properly manage water resources. This is a hands-on position that requires strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Irrigation System Operation Operate and monitor the golf course irrigation system serving all 36 holes, practice facilities, clubhouse grounds, and other irrigated areas. Assist the Superintendent in developing and adjusting daily irrigation schedules based on turf conditions, weather, rainfall, soil moisture, and course needs. Perform daily visual inspections of irrigation performance and identify areas receiving too much or too little water. Make field adjustments to improve irrigation coverage and efficiency. Perform hand watering and spot watering of greens, tees, fairways, and other areas when necessary. Monitor overnight irrigation performance and investigate system faults or incomplete watering cycles. Troubleshooting & Repairs Diagnose and repair irrigation system problems including: Sprinkler heads Valves Solenoids Controllers Electrical wiring Communication issues Mainline and lateral piping Leaks and broken pipes Pumps and pump controls Locate underground irrigation lines, valves, and electrical wiring. Repair damaged irrigation components quickly to minimize water loss and disruption to golf. Adjust, level, replace, and maintain sprinkler heads to provide proper coverage. Troubleshoot low-pressure, high-pressure, and inconsistent irrigation conditions. Maintain valve boxes, irrigation components, and work areas in a clean and professional condition following repairs. Water Management Help manage water efficiently while maintaining high-quality turf conditions. Monitor weather conditions, rainfall totals, evapotranspiration, and soil moisture when determining irrigation needs. Identify wet and dry areas and recommend adjustments to irrigation programming. Assist with water conservation efforts and irrigation efficiency improvements. Immediately report significant leaks, pump failures, or other problems that could affect course conditions or water availability. Preventive Maintenance Develop and follow a routine preventive maintenance program for irrigation equipment. Inspect sprinkler heads, valves, controllers, pump stations, and other irrigation components on a regular schedule. Clean, adjust, and replace irrigation components before failures occur whenever possible. Maintain an organized inventory of irrigation parts and supplies. Notify the Superintendent when replacement parts or supplies need to be ordered. Keep irrigation tools, equipment, parts storage, and work areas organized and maintained. Documentation Maintain accurate records of irrigation repairs and system issues. Update irrigation maps when system modifications or repairs are made. Document major leaks, valve replacements, sprinkler replacements, electrical repairs, and other significant work. Track recurring irrigation problems and communicate recommended long-term solutions to the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Associates degree or equivalent experience in turf management or golf course operations a plus. 2+ years of experience in golf course maintenance or turf management. Experience with course equipment operation, maintenance, and repair is highly desirable. Knowledge of irrigation systems, pest control, and fertilization practices. Skills & Abilities The successful candidate should possess: Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to diagnose problems systematically and efficiently. Basic understanding of irrigation hydraulics and water pressure. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, trenchers, pipe equipment, and irrigation repair equipment. Ability to read irrigation maps and understand system layouts. Strong organizational skills. Ability to prioritize repairs across a large 36-hole property. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Good communication and teamwork skills. Attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
