A Farm, Nursery, or Greenhouse Worker propagates, cultivates and harvests plants, primarily flowers, trees, shrubs and sod, and other crops such as mushrooms that are grown in greenhouses, or grows and harvests farm crops such as grain, fruit or vegetables. Operates and maintains equipment used to grow and harvest plants and crops. Cares for animals including dairy cows or chickens, pigs or other animals raised for meat.

Job Description

Job Summary:
DVU Dairy is looking for a team of motivated individuals that have a genuine desire to learn through hands on work in the dairy facility. It is our desire to build a team of positive employees that are willing to learn and accomplish the many tasks that are required on a daily basis. Employees work an average of 15-20 hours per week, and one weekend per month. The schedule is reasonably flexible allowing students to take classes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Mix and distribute feed to the different animal groups housed at the facility Maintain a clean, healthy, and attractive facility Clean and maintain bedded animal areas Assist with the herd health care tasks Maintain landscape areas such as mowing, trimming, and flower bed care Assist with general maintenance of the facility Other duties as assigned Education Employment eligibility: Currently enrolled Delaware Valley University student Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide required documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Some farm and animal experience preferred but not necessary
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Occasionally lifting 25 lbs or less Frequently lifting 25 lbs or more Typically standing or walking Typically bending, crouching, stooping Climbing ladders, scaffolds Using tools requiring high dexterity Outdoor exposure to weather Exposure to moving machinery Exposure to unpleasant odors Exposure to animal feces and specimens May be exposed to animal contagious diseases High noise environment High dust, dirt, grease environment May have an alternative work schedule May be required to be on-call Need to be able to be up early in the morning
