Job Summary The Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing irrigation systems to ensure efficient water distribution for landscapes, lawns, gardens, athletic fields, and other outdoor areas. The technician monitors system performance, identifies issues, and performs preventative maintenance to support healthy plant growth and water conservation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install irrigation systems, including pipes, valves, sprinklers, controllers, and related components. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation system malfunctions and leaks. Program and adjust irrigation controllers and timers based on seasonal requirements. Perform routine maintenance to ensure systems operate efficiently and comply with water conservation practices. Test system performance and identify areas requiring adjustment or repair. Replace damaged pipes, sprinkler heads, valves, wiring, and other irrigation components. Read and interpret irrigation plans, blueprints, and specifications. Monitor water usage and recommend system improvements for efficiency. Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe manner. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities. Respond to emergency irrigation repairs as needed. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience in irrigation installation, maintenance, or landscaping. Knowledge of irrigation systems, controllers, pumps, valves, and sprinkler equipment. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical irrigation issues. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Irrigation Technician Certification or equivalent industry certification. Experience with commercial irrigation systems. Knowledge of water conservation practices and local irrigation regulations. Basic electrical troubleshooting experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Understanding of hydraulic and irrigation system principles. Ability to read blueprints and irrigation schematics. Effective communication and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and digging. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely. Working Conditions Outdoor work environment with exposure to heat, cold, rain, and dust. Occasional overtime, weekend, or emergency repair work may be required. Travel between job sites as needed.
