Job Description

Longwood Gardens is seeking a seasonal Greenhouse Grower Assistant to support our Floriculture team this spring into summer[KM1] . The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks under the direction of our experienced Growers. Tasks for this position will be performed in small groups and independently.
Responsibilities include:
Staking, tying, pinching/pruning, potting, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, soil mixing, irrigation maintenance and assisting with the upkeep and cleanliness of work areas. Grooming of plants as they are prepared for display throughout the Gardens. Assist with transporting potted plants to and from growing areas, which involves occasionally working around trucks, lift gates, forklifts, and utility vehicles. This seasonal position will average 4-5 days a week with the workday starting at 6:30 AM. Some weekend work will be required, as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess:
The ability to perform manual, repetitive tasks independently The ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, etc) The ability to lift at least 50 pounds The ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and walk for long periods The ability to work inside and outside The ability to lift and carry items as needed for tasks Prior horticultural experience and/or knowledge preferred - we will train motivated individuals A valid driver's license (required) Longwood Gardens is committed to nurturing a diverse and inclusive environment that celebrates the complexities and differences of all living things.
