This position requires more than basic irrigation experience. The ideal candidate can independently troubleshoot complex, electrical, controller, wiring, valve, pump, and coverage problems; communicate professionally with clients; document work accurately; and complete service calls profitably. The Senior Irrigation Specialist will also help establish irrigation standards, train team members, reduce callbacks, identify system improvements, and protect client landscapes through efficient water management. Primary Responsibilities Diagnose electrical, pressure, flow, wiring, controller, valve, pump, and coverage problems. Locate damaged valves, wiring faults, leaks, broken pipes, and malfunctioning components. Repair or replace valves, solenoids, controllers, sensors, heads, nozzles, piping, wiring, pumps, and backflow-related components within permitted scope. Troubleshoot two-wire and conventional irrigation systems. Complete system startups, inspections, seasonal adjustments, and winterizations. Respond to irrigation emergencies when required. Correct recurring problems rather than repeatedly treating symptoms. Installation and system improvement Read irrigation plans, landscape plans, specifications, and property maps. Install new irrigation systems and complete system expansions or renovations. Lay out zones to provide proper precipitation rates and head-to-head coverage. Calculate pressure, flow, pipe sizing, and zone capacity. Program conventional and smart controllers based on plant material, soil conditions, slope, exposure, and seasonal requirements. Recommend water-saving improvements, including smart controllers, flow sensors, rain sensors, drip irrigation, pressure regulation, and efficient nozzles. Coordinate irrigation work with landscape-installation and maintenance teams. Verify that completed systems operate according to company specifications before leaving the property. Client service and sales support Explain irrigation problems and recommended solutions clearly to clients and managers. Identify repair, upgrade, renovation, and water-conservation opportunities. Prepare accurate field information for quotes and change orders. Obtain written authorization before performing work outside the approved scope. Protect the client's property and leave every work area clean and professional. Represent the company with excellent communication, appearance, and conduct. Documentation and profitability Review the day's schedule, job scope, materials, and site information before leaving the shop. Accurately record labor, materials, photos, system conditions, repairs, and recommendations in Jobber. Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, testing equipment, and irrigation inventory. Complete work within estimated labor and material allowances. Notify management promptly when site conditions will affect schedule, scope, or profitability. Reduce wasted travel by stocking commonly used repair parts. Assist with material lists and irrigation job-cost reviews. Follow purchasing and material-control procedures. Leadership and training Train crew leaders and technicians to identify common irrigation problems. Establish consistent installation and repair standards. Inspect irrigation work completed by other team members. Help develop checklists for startups, inspections, installations, repairs, and winterizations. Support a culture of craftsmanship, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. Provide management with recommendations for equipment, inventory, training, cost savings on material and operational improvements. Required Qualifications At least five years of professional landscape-irrigation experience. Advanced ability to diagnose complex irrigation problems independently. Strong knowledge of irrigation, pressure, flow, precipitation rates, and system design. Experience with commercial and residential irrigation systems. Experience troubleshooting conventional and two-wire systems. Proficiency with controllers and components from manufacturers such as Rain Bird, Hunter, Toro, and Baseline. Ability to use multimeters, wire locators, valve locators, pressure gauges, and other diagnostic equipment. Ability to read plans, prepare material lists, and document completed work. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to communicate professionally with clients, field employees, and managers. Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions. Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for scheduling, notes, photographs, time tracking, and documentation. Preferred Qualifications Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Technician, Certified Irrigation Contractor, or similar credential. Backflow testing or installation certification where applicable. Experience with smart controllers, central-control systems, flow monitoring, and weather-based irrigation. Experience leading or training irrigation technicians. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills. Experience using Jobber or comparable field-service software. Experience estimating irrigation repairs and renovation projects. Physical Requirements Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Dig, kneel, bend, climb, and work in confined outdoor areas. Work outside in heat, cold, rain, and other changing conditions. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, trenching equipment, and company vehicles. Perform work around utilities, water lines, electrical components, and active jobsites.
