Lone Star Oyster Company is seeking a motivated, hands-on Oyster Farm Hand to join our commercial oyster mariculture operations based out of Clute, Texas. This position begins as a 3-4 month paid internship facilitated through the Oyster Resource and Recovery Center (ORRC) in partnership with the TAMU Harte Research Institute. You will work directly alongside our operations team in the field, gaining comprehensive, real-world experience in off-bottom oyster cultivation, array management, and commercial harvesting. Upon successful completion of the internship, top performers will be evaluated for full-time employment and long-term advancement within our growing company. Key Responsibilities

• Execute daily field operations, including seed handling, stocking, gear assembly, and cage deployments.
• Manage desiccation cycles, cage flipping, and mechanical tumbling/grading to optimize oyster growth and shell shape.
• Harvest, wash, count, and grade market-ready oysters according to strict quality control and bio-fouling standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on farm gear, boats, power equipment, and work docks.
• Monitor stock health, keep accurate daily records of environmental conditions and crop yields, and follow strict farm biosecurity protocols.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspace environments both onshore and on the water. Qualifications & Physical Requirements

Physical Capability:

Ability to lift and maneuver 75+ lbs repeatedly, stand for extended periods, and perform physical labor (bending, lifting, pulling) in dynamic water conditions.

Water Safety:

Good swimmer comfortable working on boats, around docks, and stepping directly into shallow water to service gear.

Work Ethic:

Strong personal accountability, high attention to detail, and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a crew.

Adaptability:

Willingness to work early mornings, variable hours, or weekends as dictated by weather, tides, and seasonal operations.

Experience:

Prior experience in commercial fishing, marine operations, or agriculture is a plus, but not required. We are willing to train candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for sustainable Texas aquaculture. Work Environment & Location

Location:

Field and dock operations based in Clute, TX. Candidates must have reliable transportation to commute or be prepared to relocate prior to their start date.

Conditions:

100% outdoor marine setting. You will be working on boats and in the water across varying weather conditions (heat, sun, wind, rain, and cold). Compensation & Internship Details
