This position provides hands-on horticultural work while leading and supporting the horticulture team. Key Responsibilities Plan and coordinate seasonal planting, displays, pruning, irrigation, and landscape maintenance. Monitor plant health, soil conditions, irrigation, pests, diseases, and nutritional needs; identify problems and implement solutions. Lead, train, and mentor horticulture staff and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently. Oversee planting, propagation, transplanting, and establishment of plants and seasonal displays. Maintain accurate records of plant inventories, treatments, applications, maintenance, and purchases. Promote sustainable practices, including water conservation, soil improvement, composting, and integrated pest management. Ensure proper equipment operation, chemical handling, PPE use, and compliance with safety requirements. Assist with purchasing, budgeting, inventory, and cost control. Inspect grounds and gardens to ensure Glenwood's quality standards are maintained. Address storm damage, plant disease, staffing needs, and other urgent horticultural issues. Work with the Special Care team on lot inspections, documentation, seasonal change-outs, renovations, and horticultural concerns. Qualifications Strong knowledge of horticulture, plant care, landscape maintenance, and pest/disease management. Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks. Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment. Pesticide applicator certification preferred or required as applicable. Expectations Be dependable, punctual, professional, and respectful. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Perform quality work with attention to detail and follow all safety procedures. Properly care for cemetery property, tools, vehicles, and equipment. Wear required uniforms and appropriate safety equipment. Be flexible and prepared to perform a variety of duties based on seasonal and operational needs. Work Schedule Generally 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday . Seasonal or operational needs may require variations to the normal schedule.
