The Farm Manager's main duties are to ensure the nursery is operating efficiently, plants are being well cared for, and the nursery is profitable. This person works with other personnel to ensure effective teamwork and communication. This position requires absolute confidentiality as he/she may have exposure to sensitive information, such as operational procedures and records, future company growth plans, financial information, and customer, partner, and vendor information. Person must have a full range of motion given the physical demands of the position, including twistiing, bending, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Base salary will be $20 gross per hour plus 10% commission on tree sales from Fertile Earth Worm Farm. It is expected that you clock in and out. You will not be compensated for time taken off or hours not clocked in. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. General responsibilities including but not limited to: Answer phone calls, texts, and listen to messages. Read and respond to e-mails within 24 hours of receipt, and sooner for calls and texts. Route phone calls and e-mails to appropriate team members if they do not pertain to you. Follow up on voicemail messages and e-mails daily. Organize and file documents as needed. Update boards with new developments, contacts, progress/status, etc. daily. Adhere to deadlines. Supervise the farm hands and compost manager. Stay within budget. Provide good customer service to walk-in customers by phone or e-mail. Respond to tree sale inquiries in person, by phone, e-mail, or other sources and provide accurate information and pricing Ensure tree health Scout for pests and diseases Decide which crops to plant and when with the intent of making the nursery more profitable Document how much food and yard debris is being received every day and keep documentation of these records. Track day, source, items received, quantities, volume, lot numbers, staff hours, and who worked, etc. Identify and determine prices of trees Advertise trees for sale Get plants ready for sale (digging, bagging and burlapping, etc.) Network with industry professionals to sell plants Package and distribute organic soil and compost products Conduct and log preventative maintenance of equipment and tools Ensure equipment is functioning properly Ensure the farm is organized and presentable, especially for tours and events Attend the recurring general weekly meetings. Provide a written report on the week's progress (on items not in ) Manage inbound food to depack or re-distribute. Take detailed notes as to what is being received, who worked, how many hours, etc. (refer to the depack SOPs) Create and send invoices for yard debris drop-offs, tree and product sales, and collect payment. Mark orders as fulfilled in Shopify. Assist with events (both before, during, and after) Promote FEWF by participating in trade shows, presentations, workshops, and other special events. Prepare your necessary materials prior to your event. Get to the location ON TIME to set up and prepare before the event starts. You should be ready to go before the event starts. Assist with any other duties as assigned.
