Sod Farm Manager Our farm is seeking to hire a person to manage the day to day operation of the sod farm located in Montrose, GA. The farm currently has 1200 acres of sod in production with plans to expand as sales dictate the need. In general, this person will be responsible for every aspect of the production of the sod production from the decision to plant more sod, what variety to plant, field preparation, planting, grow-in, harvest, and field renovation. This position requires someone to work 5 to 7 days per week depending on the time of year. The hours are basically 7:30 am to 5 pm, however there will be times that there will be a need to work longer hours.

Daily duties:

Plan general job activities for employees Give support and guidance to field supervisor to facilitate job activities Insure proper equipment maintenance and efficient performance Inspect fields for general health of sod and needed attention Inspect job quality of all activities Insure daily, weekly, and monthly reports are completed within allotted time frame Procure necessary parts and supplies as necessary Communicate/coordinate with sales team concerning daily harvest schedule or harvest issues Long range duties : Prepare an annual budget Project available sod inventory Project long range sod inventory production needs Project equipment needs and major repairs Skills and experience GED/High School Diploma 3 plus years in a management position on a sod farm A general knowledge of farm equipment, fertilizers, and pesticides Extensive farm equipment experience Employee management experience Verbal and written communication skills This position requires: A team first attitude A person of high character, integrity, punctual A willingness to work longer hours when necessary Able to work with employees with a respectful attitude and skill to improve an employee's job performance Able to receive constructive criticism Able to visualize to entire scope of the job A person that has a positive attitude and able to solve problems Identify and hire employees as needed Compensation will be dependent upon experience and will include health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits.
