at Christensen Farms in Newman, Illinois, United States Job Description Early Pig Care Specialist. Christensen Farms & Feedlots, Inc. Newman, Illinois. Responsible for overseeing the daily care of critical care, small, and fallout pig management; oversee the reproduction, growth, and development of swine with the goal of maximizing the survival potential for the newly received pigs; oversee daily tasks, including mat and gruel feeding, pen card and gruel trough management, feeder adjustment, prefill plan, coordination of receiving pigs, water management, pod site travel, grading of pigs, sorting of pigs, loading of pigs, and euthanasia and dead removal practices; evaluate environment and ventilation management for early pig care pens and make adjustments as needed to ensure optimal environmental conditions for health and growth; develop and lead training and education of farm staff on early pig care and other topics related to animal breeding, weaning, and finishing; collaborate with and provide expertise to other specialists, apprentices, and technicians to identify opportunities to create environments and procedures that maximize the survivability of all pigs and achieve established metrics; and ensure farm staff follow all standard operating procedures, biosecurity, site sanitation, and safety standards. Travel required 5% of the time to other farm locations within the state of Illinois. $64,667.00 per year.
