Do you have a passion for fish and wildlife, working outdoors, and being in nature? The Inland Deserts Region Fisheries program is seeking to hire a Scientific Aid to assist with field-based fisheries and amphibian work in the Inland Empire and surrounding areas. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on, career-building experience in fish sampling methods, data collection, and applied fisheries management and restoration. These positions require fieldwork in river, stream, and lake environments throughout San Bernardino, Riverside, and Imperial counties. Please see the Duty statement for additional information. The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification.

• Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.
• Applicants who receive public assistance need to identify themselves as CalWORKs recipients in the comments section of the STD 678, Examination/Employment Application.
• Applicants must submit verification of CalWORKs eligibility, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligibility or a copy of the most recent aid check stub.
• Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program. If CalWORKs verification is not submitted with the application, it will not be processed as CalWORKs eligible.
• Participation by a public assistance recipient is voluntary and in no event shall any person be subject to sanctions, through loss of benefits or eligibility, for not applying for, accepting, or continuing in a seasonal or entry level non-testing classification opening.

Working Conditions Outdoor field work-based position, irregular hours, long days, including nights, weekends, holidays and travel up to 5% to perform field work, including working outdoors in inclement weather and on uneven ground or on a boat. May have to work in variable temperature gradients, ranging from 10 degrees Fahrenheit during winter months to 120 degrees Fahrenheit during summer months. Hike in mountainous terrain, creeks rivers and camp in remote areas and work at night. Work may require extended hours in the field including strenuous physical activities (hiking using GPS navigation, pulling nets, carrying equipment), and overnight camping. Fieldwork will include driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Minimum Requirements
