Job Summary Join Bama Bloom as a Dispensary Technician—a role defined by empathy, professionalism, and patient advocacy. Serving as the primary point of contact for our registered patients and caregivers, you will provide a welcoming and informative environment within the regulatory framework of the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC). You will work closely with our on-duty Certified Dispensers to ensure safe, compliant service. Through our extensive training, you will become a subject matter expert, helping patients navigate our menu with clarity. As a Dispensary Technician, you will be the heart of the patient experience—the first friendly face our patients see—ensuring that every interaction is welcoming, professional, and held to the highest standards of compliance.
Key Responsibilities Compassionate Patient Care:
Communicate with patients and caregivers in a responsible and compassionate manner to help them understand the product options available within their physician certification. Must be able to deliver exceptional, compassionate patient care from reception check-in to the completion of a transaction.
Product Education:
Must consistently be a reliable and knowledgeable resource for patient inquiries by staying informed on cannabinoid profiles, Alabama's approved product form, and other cannabis product and industry updates.
Scope of Practice:
Route questions about product selection, dosage, safety, or effectiveness to the Certified Dispenser on duty, who may refer the patient back to their certifying physician, as required by AMCC.
Daily Operations:
Effectively operate electronic systems including point-of-sale (POS), the Alabama Medical Cannabis Patient Registry System (AMCPRS), and cash registers following thorough on-the-job training.
Compliance & Safety:
Verify patient and caregiver medical cannabis cards, help enforce physician-certified amounts and the 60-day purchasing limit, and strictly adhere to all AMCC regulations, seed-to-sale (Metrc) tracking protocols, and HIPPA patient privacy requirements.
Facility Care:
Assist the management team with opening and closing checklists, and maintain a sterile, organized, and professional workstation.
Team Collaboration:
Maintain a supportive, empathetic, and professional attitude, assisting fellow team members to deliver compassionate patient care. Qualifications & RequirementsWhat You Bring to the Table A foundational understanding of medical cannabis, cannabinoid/terpene profile, and their therapeutic applications. Exceptional customer service, active listening, and communication skills, with a natural empathy for individuals dealing with medical conditions. Strong organizational habits, accurate data entry skills, and strict attention to detail. A basic grasp of Alabama medical cannabis laws and compliance regulations.
Job Requirements Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience:
1-2 years of experience in healthcare, customer service, or a pharmacy/retail setting (cannabis industry experience is a major plus).
Schedule:
Full Flexibility; expected to work weekends and holidays. Flexibility to work mornings into nighttime is required.
Training:
Must successfully complete the medical cannabis foundations training program provided by the AMCC prior to beginning work. Must complete required training and credentialing for the electronic tracking systems, AMCPRS and Metrc, upon hire.
Background Check Requirement:
Must be eligible to pass a mandatory state (ALEA) and national (FBI) criminal background check in accordance with AMCC regulations.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands The Environment:
This role is based entirely inside our climate-controlled retail and patient consultation facility. Please note that the workspace features a natural cannabis aroma and involves daily, direct interaction with diverse patient populations, caregivers, and healthcare vendors.
Physical Expectations:
Comfort standing for long periods throughout your shift and the ability to safely lift and carry up to 30 lbs of medical inventory or facility supplies.
