Job Description

As a Donor Recovery Technician , you will play a critical role in enabling life changing transplants and research by ensuring the safe and respectful recovery of birth tissue in hospital environments. This is a hands on, patient focused role where technical expertise, compassion, and attention to detail truly make a difference. What will you be doing? Coordinating and executing birth tissue acquisition in hospital settings for transplant and research use Obtaining informed consent and accurately completing all donor documentation including medical social history Performing aseptic tissue recovery within a sterile field while adhering to all regulatory and quality standards Reviewing medical records and screening donors for eligibility prior to tissue acquisition Coordinating blood sample collection with hospital staff Packaging, labeling, and arranging transport of recovered tissue and blood samples Building and maintaining professional relationships with hospital personnel Managing supplies and maintaining cleanliness and organization of recovery and storage areas Completing ongoing training and maintaining compliance with internal SOPs, hospital procedures, and AATB standards What will you need to be successful? Associate degree plus a minimum of 2 years of experience in tissue banking, transplant services, operating room environments, or a related medical or biological field Comfort working in patient care and surgical settings Certified Tissue Bank Specialist or the ability and commitment to obtain certification within one year of hire Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately complete medical documentation Experience in birth tissue acquisition, or credentials such as BSN, RN, LPN, Surgical Technician, or Surgical Assistant are preferred Ability to work a flexible schedule aligned with hospital operations, including shifts based on patient care needs, surgical schedules, and clinical staff coordination. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
